Artwork Story
This artwork represents a netball team.
The design I have created is a contemporary interpretation of Aboriginal storytelling using symbols, lines and dots. The piece showcases the story behind the central meeting place with twelve individuals which can be acknowledged as the players in a netball squad. The journey lines entering the meeting place showcase the different journeys and experiences that got them to where they are today as individuals. The lines exiting the meeting place however is where they aspire to go in the future as a team. This bond or unity around the meeting place highlights that as one the team will be fearless and strong to achieve their desired goals.
The journey is upheld by their ancestors (the stars) of the game symbolising how their resilience in their own journeys which once didn’t include the identification of reconciliation. However, moving forward it is now indulged by the community and has fuelled the current team’s togetherness at the central place. This support is further enhanced by the symbols of people surrounding the team. The design of each group of people shows how all members of the community are diverse, however, netball brings them together, to join as one.
