This collaboration feels incredibly special and very close to home. Being asked to create the artwork for the Sir Doug Nicholls Round Sherrin was not only an honour, but an opportunity to tell a story deeply connected to my own upbringing, family, and community.
Some of my earliest memories are from growing up at the local footy club, running around the boundary line, hearing the siren, and being surrounded by people who felt like family. Footy was always more than just a game for us. It was a meeting place, a space for connection, belonging, and community.
At the heart of this story are my Nan and Pop, who spent years supporting Dad and caring for us kids on the sidelines. They made sure we were always safe, loved, and connected to the people around us. Their strength, care, and quiet presence shaped so much of my upbringing, and their story is woven throughout this design.
The flowing journey lines also pay tribute to Dad, whose influence sits quietly in the background of my life. Football became a pathway that changed the course of our family’s future, giving us the ability to live by choice, not chance. This piece honours that journey and carries those stories forward.
The central meeting places represent football clubs across Country, while the surrounding people symbols reflect the players, supporters, families, and children growing up on the sidelines, just like I did.
This artwork is ultimately a tribute to family, community, and the spirit of football that continues to bring people together across generations.
I hope everyone takes this opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the strength, beauty, and richness of our culture throughout this round.
